WordPress MU version 2.6.1 has just been released. This is a sync of the WordPress maintenance release that saw the light of day a few weeks ago.
This is a required upgrade as it fixes a number of critical bugs, particularly in deleting users and blogs. Upgrading is as easy as copying over the files of your current install.
For a more comprehensive list of changes, check the timeline, but in short, yes you do need to upgrade!
WordPress MU is a multi blog version of WordPress that runs many sites such as Linux.ie Blogs and WordPress.com. If you run the single blog version of WordPress you can probably ignore this message.

Nice, I think I should upgrade my MU Site – but would the plugin EMBED IT not working with 2.6.1? It stopped working with the 2.6 upgrade. Its a great plugin unless somebody here knows a better plugin to use.

Haven’t tested them that much, feedback and patches cheerfully accepted
Still working on figuring out whether to provide EPEL, or casual F8/9/EL5 rpms.
Thanks for all your hard work on this stuff, donncha!
Awesome work as always Donncha!

I am finding it impossible to upgrade from 2.5 to 2.6. My hosting is on Go Daddy – all the sites on Network Solutions upgraded without a problem. But when I upgrade to 2.6 on the Go Daddy hosting account everything seems to go well until I have to log back in after the installation. The old password does not work and I request a new password. That doesn’t work either – so I have had to go back to 2.5 just to get the site to display. Any ideas? Thanks, Chief
Chief, I’d suggest getting a better host if at all possible. I had trouble with GoDaddy as well but made the switch to HostGator and I’m so thankful I did it. Also, do you have a backup of the site? You should look at getting plugin for that if not just to save yourself in these situations.
