And now, having this multi-user version, we can literally host hundreds of blogs using the same WordPress instance. Imagine a company with several brands or locations that wants to have their sites all look and behave similarly but also wants each to manage their own content.

Keith says Airtricity have a simple approach to electricity meter reading. Email and text. Sure you could lie, but they have a good notion of how much electricity you use and I’m sure a meter reader would be out after another month of only 10 units used.

GIMP plugins I discovered through the GIMP Registry RSS feed: photo effects contains a bunch of pretty effects. Cross processing and cross processing 2.4 make your image all green and contrasty. Sort of like these cross processed pictures.
Figmentation has some great photos. Another Irish photoblog.
My funny video blog now has a pagerank of 2! Not all sites went down I guess. Here’s a great clip of Jeremy Clarkson in his Peel P50 driving around the offices of the BBC in London!

WordPress 2.3.1 was released on Friday. The new WordPress MU will be ready soon.

Linux Ubuntu Dapper to Edgy – no problem

I upgraded my Ubuntu 6.06 install to the new Edgy soon after it’s release using the simple command gksu "update-manager -c". Several hours later, and after clicking on a few dialog boxes to update files in /etc/, I’m not running Ubuntu Edgy on my desktop box.

Initially I wondered where Firefox 2.0 was hiding, but on my upgraded system it’s /usb/bin/firefox.ubuntu so it’ll live alongside version 1.5. I also noticed that when saving files in the GIMP the filename would disappear when I clicked on a new folder in the “bookmark” folder of the Gnome file dialog. Once I noticed, ctrl-c to record the filename and ctrl-v to paste it in again worked fine. I rename my files when saving so it’s not much of a hardship.

My machine seems slightly faster but I haven’t delved too deeply into what has been upgraded but Firefox, xchat, terminal, GIMP and Gthumb all work fine! Did your upgrade go as well?

A recent thread on the GIMP User mailing list asked about why previews are so small, and why the “main window” preview isn’t available everywhere.
Replies were soon forthcoming. It seems that plugins can’t preview their changes in the main window, but built-in tools can.
Carol Spears even offered a small tutorial explaining how you can increase the preview size in plugins very easily!
