  1. Hi Bloggers,
I’m the retoucher Glenn Feron, I’m not a photographer and don’t take any credit for the fantastic photographs taken of models & celebrities that I’m honored & proud to have retouched. I appreciate your interest in my site, but the blog sites are jamming up my server and costing me extream overage charges just for understandibly interested people. I guess there’s nothing much I can do about that, but try not to hit it over & over too many times. And if you need retouching done let me know, it would help me keep my site up.
Just a note to a lot of people that commented on what i do. I don’t do this for myself for the fun of making women or models waists thinner, breast bigger, ,skin smoother etc. I’m asked by the end client to make them look their best. They’re selling magazines or advertisments for either themselves or products they’re promoting. They know what they looked like in the before image and appoved it. If the advertiser wants to enhance the ad, that’s my job.
If there’s any question as to the ethics of it all, look at TV show’s like Extream Makeovers, The Swan, and so on. The media showing young vunerable nieve women how they could look. Do the doctors care? Nope, they just keep raking in the bucks, and say thatat’s how they wanted to look. And the become millionaires from procedures that are dangerous and could be deadly as we all know already. Retouching never hurt anyone except maybe the young uninformed girls that think that’s the way they really look, and try to emulate them with their parents and surgeon’s glee and approval. I almost wish I was a surgeon, I’d have my own Island too. Glenn Island. But I’ll never make that kind of money making images look better. It’s not a dirty little secrect anymore that almost ever image or ad you see is retouched. I’m amazed at how many people are shocked at that. I’ve been doing this kind of work since 1975 restoring old cracked photos and went on to the commercial area of this old age profession that brought me where I’m at today. I thought most everyone knew about this already, but I guess not.
I hope this informs the unimformed. And I thank all for the comments good and bad, but just remember,….”I’m not a Doctor Jim, I’m just a retoucher!” Beam me up Scotty.
    Thanks,
    Glenn Feron

  2. Thanks for the lengthy comment Glenn! Your work is astounding, and obviously generated a lot of interest as everyone wants to see before and after shots of beautiful people!
I have absolutely no problem with touching up a photo for artistic reasons. What’s the problem with it? It’s your interpretation of the image that’s important and I applaud you for your skill and vision.

  3. Holy Shmoly yourself Donncha, now we’re talkin’ photography. Those images are just amazing, really!! You’ve got a gift too. That’s what needs to be seen.
You don’t need retouching on those, I wouldn’t touch ‘em with a 40 foot mast. Beautiful, georgous and what else can I say. Keep ‘em coming!
    Glenn

  4. Oh Yea, I forgot to mention one more thing. As many years as I’ve been doing this, I’ve never been given a credit line in any magazine or ad I’ve done. I’m an artist too, but I can’t sign my name to retouching jobs. Damn shame right?
Maybe now that the pandora’s box has been open a little more, I’m not the only retouch artist that feels the lack of credit, and there are many great one’s out there too. Hopefully we’ll all get the credit we deserve for the amazing talent that’s out there. To the retired incredibly talented veterans who taught me the art of it retouching the old way with an airbrush, pencils, bleach & dyes, to the new digital artists & retouchers that are bringing all of us into new worlds of unbelievable and sometimes unearthly imagery. Let’s all enjoy this, and watch it get even better. Never stop learning and exploring new worlds.
    The Best to all.
    Glenn
    Thanks for you compliments Donncha

  5. You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve always wondered why the black women in the magazines looked like they freaking swallowed ten tons of carrots, and now I know it’s partially Glenn’s fault.

There ARE ways to make black women look beautiful (AND satisfy the magazines and/or private clients) and retouch their photos WITHOUT making them look completely inhuman. Feron’s abecedarian Photoshop skills are emphasized in the ajandjai01.jpg he’s got on his online portfolio.

This isn’t even a critique of the whole “Holy crap, you make women look artificial/contribute to the girls’s plights of anorexia and surgery” thing. This is basic common computer art skills. He has…no eye for beauty, I guess.

  6. Beg pardon?

I guess I’m coming a little late to the discussion, but I Feron’s got a phenomenal eye for beauty, in the same sense that Vargas did. Unless you have complete control of lighting and space, photography is not art in and of itself. It’s simply a recording medium.

Art is when you make an image that reflects your vision.

  7. Where can these before and after images be seen now? I can’t find them anymore!!!!! nooooooo!

  8. i cant get into sad…:( but i have seen it before its awesome!! :P

  9. Hi,
I just wanted to again link up Glenn’s site (there were nice examples) into forum “Anorexia and Bulimia” I’m guarding as voted admin, known there as amateur-psychoterapeut…

Founding them closed, I Googled his name and founded this… And I can’t go away without reaction, hoping, once he’ll return and react on it, or react on my mail…

Well, not only as admin of teh forum, i can see functionality of retouched pictures.. I know that Glenn is “only following orders” (obligate sentence explaining why SSmans behaved how they behaved) and i accept it – we’re living in the world under pressure of american pre-comunism or whatever is evolving there for last aprox 40 years.. (It’s strange… Some hybrid between Hitler’s and Stalins empire… Interesting… Really…)
I know, that nearly whole world is based on advertisement, that is nothing more than tricking people into buying something they realy don’t need or they have, but not in most popular colour…
I know that people are mostly like sheeps… After all, I’m gonna study Sociology… But… They can behave other way – based on their own thoughts… But this is dangerous, so people are forced into depresions and extreme “false self-confidence” & zero “true self-confidence”…

And I’m sorry to must say this – but retouchers are in the front of army that torture and criple mind of people…
We can say, that Glenn’s gallery was a some sort of “payback” (don’t-know-correct-word) that I was able to use partly restore my part of world and wight evil of retouching by this…

Glenn is totally…out(?) when thinkink, that people know about retouching – no, they don’t… Nearly noone know about it… That’s much more validate about that generation which is mostly attacked by work of retouchers…

Can anyone really think that children in age of 8-13 can find out, that it’s retouched picture..?
Or they pick it as reality and will try to be like teh picture using teh cosmetics painted under it..?

Look – I’m from Czechia (Czech Republic) We have there nearle best education system in Europe which means – in whole world too…
(And we’re joking about absolvents of USA universities who know less then our students of 7.class of primary school (age aprox 12-13) – one friend just returned from USA and his stories about people there, their knowledge, religion – we laughed a lot… But back to point… )

…althought we have so good education system, it’s impossible to explain children what it takes with…

They WANT… And as much as they looks different from retouched, they wanted to look like them… Becouse – with higher lvl of hypocricy in society, even childrens became so… Boys feeded by “SPEED” or so moto-modeling magazines looks for girls like retouched ones…
…and where is hunger for “like-retouched-girls” – soon some will appear…

You know, that in teh age (around 11) girls starting to be very emotional… (They’ll be so until aprox 17-19, but that’s not so important)
And now – theire abadoned by part of their-age society just for not-being-like-retouched…

    …they fell into depressions……very slowly…
…cosmetics are expensive and effect is not as good as they wish…
…nothing can make them look like retouched…

…they’re shamed for beying so “low” – they wish to be admired, loved, but in that critical age, usually they’re alone…

This can and in two ways – they became “American girls” (whores in fact – each week new partner – but pssst! it’s secret..) Trying to rise their self-confidence by number of partners, but hating themselves in same time… Usually, they end as low-lvl workers, prostitutes and they drunk of or comit suicide…

Second way is that they try to became ultimate in something, that they think is not so hard for them to achieve…
They try to be so slim as retouched models…
Usually, it starts with ortorexia… Then they became vegetarian, vegan, vitarian, fruktarian and then they finish in Anorexia or in Breatharianism (Anorectic religion)… Or they just fell into Anorexia or bulimia “by night”…
    It depends…
    …but…
…if not catched in early stage, it usually end with death… Or at least by lose of reproduction ability…

I’m lucky, cos till now, no dead is between girls I try to help… Even some cured…
But for how long I’ll have “clean cemetery”..?

Aprox. 3 weeks ago, we banished one girl with bulimia – she was even vomiting blood… But she still didn’t want to end… She was even writing “how to”…
    …now is maybe dead… I don’t know…

I don’t blame Glenn or other retouchers in first line.. It’s not their fault in basics…

It’s fault of their clients – of their greed with which they want to sell and sell and sell, with no care what can cause…

You know – even gun is innocent – murderer could be only it’s user…
Retouchers are bullet makers and their clients are that ones who fire them from guns(magazines and ads) into children…

I only hope, that Glenn finally find out how to use Net properly (he can start with realising of existence of multi-freehosting – 100MB there, 200MB there… And 1 GB gallery site is build only by cost of few banners of providers who’re lucky for thousands of visitors…) and reaopen his galery or create some “Retouchlist” – list of retouchers and their sites…

    I’ll appreciate it… And girls I save with it – surely too…

P.S.: Only beast can beat a women… No man or warrior with honor could ever do this… :( (

  10. Comodor W. Falkon – I think you need to give people more credit than that. Sure people are fooled by the slick advertising but the general populous is more media savvy than every before.
There have always been social pressures on people to conform. It may be greater now, but as I said above, they’re also more aware of it.

  11. Hey All
Wow! I stumbled upon Glen’s site one day long ago and I was amazed by his photoshop skills. I am a professional photographer myself and I know what goes into retouching especially when it involves fashion/models.

If the report about him killing his girlfriend is true…. man its really shocking… it probably is…his site doesnt go beyond the first page!

I came accross this blog while trying to google for Glen’s site. (My first blog ever)

  12. Hello, I am very interested in Photo retouching, unfortunately, Mr. Feron’s website does not go beyond the main page. Is there something wrong with it? Thank you for replying.
    regards.

  13. “Retouching never hurt anyone except maybe the young uninformed girls that think that’s the way they really look, and try to emulate them with their parents and surgeon’s glee and approval.”

So does it hurt no one or does it not hurt no one ? Which is it ?

  14. “Beg pardon?

Hmmm. You’ve never had an extensive art and design education, have you ?

  15. hello glenn, im a young graphic designer (26) from cancun, mexico.. i consider myself young cause eventho the new creative young minds are coming out of school really prepared n fearless about entering to a very competitive marketing world, i feel that the real school is time n experience… anyways, im here to tell you that i really admire your work.. i’ve been working with photoshop since i was 16 (today im working with the cs3) and i know the skills and the vision you need to create such beautiful pieces of art like the ones you have been doing for years.

I visited your website about 2 yrs ago i guess.. and found ur work so impressive that i still remember ur name.. i google u to find out the exact url and find this blog..
i had no idea all the things you’ve been going trough all this last year.. hope things are a lot clear now…

well, just wanted to give my humble point of view.. i dont know if u still check this blog cuase the last comment was about 6 months ago.. but just in case u do, my best wishes to u n ur family..

    keep the art flowing…

  16. Thanks to everyone who wrote me, left wonnderfull blogs, emails and encouragement for me & condolences for my Dear Diane. It’s been one year since she passed, and I’ve never felt so blessed and thankfull for all your kind words for us both.
I’ll print out all these thoughts for me, and hope I can put some of them on my new web site that you’ve all encouaged me to do, and keep it going. As an artist I know I can give my visions of life of how I see it and hope it inspires others to do the same. Their experience as they see it through their eyes to give us all something amazing to see. As Jimi Hendrix said, “We’re all a member od this universe!” And we are all amazing, and should be fearless, as Jimi (above) just said. Thanks Jimi.
Thank you all sincerely, and God bless you.
You all inspire me, and condider you all my friends.
    My best.
    Glenn

  17. I’m just wondering why is something you didn’t even do on the index page of your website?
That Mary J BLige image is Markus Klinko and Indrani’s having work for them for them in the past I’m well aware of the fact that Indrani is the retoucher……not you. WTF. I’m a retoucher, and trust we everyone he isn’t that good unless plastic unrealistic skin work is what you’re into.

    Lame.

  18. Dear Lame,

I haven’t visited this site in a long time, but just did, and saw your comment left about the Mary J Blige image. It was retouched by me not whoever you said did. Maybe Mr Markus Klinko might be doing others of her, but I was hired by Today’s Black Women magazine (as you can see on my work page) as a freelance retoucher and still work with them, and worked on that image, & have the before of it to prove it, with my photoshop file also of the retouching done. So you are absolutely wrong, and your friend must have taken credit or work that I did to impress you. As many other web sites copied mine and put there name and logo on it over the years that some good people on the web alerted me to. Real nice!
Unfortunately I was asked to take that portfolio down by the client because a photographer of a few images there alerted them to the before images of his work up there he didn’t want shown that were up since 2005. I have too many images to put up but am restricted to some by request that i respect, but would never plagiarize someone elses work. So now ask your friend Mr. Klinko or is it Indrani to see the before and after image he supposedly did. I think you might find a plastic looking after copy he attempted of my work, and no before image.
Where’s his web site? I’d like to see it? Got a URL?
And good luck in your retouching Lame.
Get your facts right. You’ve been fooled by your friend!
    Regards,
    Glenn

  19. Uh oh…did this guy retouch a MKI image….he’s going to be in big trouble because they for sure did not hire this guy…AND I’ve seen this guy’s work on photoshopdisasters.com …that has to be embarassing.
