I now need to get used to it like I did with Mac OS X.

Indeed!
I just switched back from Mac to Linux. After 3 years I needed an upgrade and on that occasion I decided to go for more freedom, because as heavy user and developer I often hit the "like it or leave" barrier of Apple.
Because of that look for freedom I instantly switched to KDE desktop after installing Ubuntu.
I absolutely understand that unification and simplification is useful when targeting a large user base. (Freedom always comes at a cost, in case somebody didn't know.)
As long as Ubuntu makes it that easy to switch to something else, I won't complain about this Apple-ish attitude in regard to Unity...

I'm searching by date, to determine unauthorised file modifications.
    `find $HOME -type f -mtime -30`
Does a search for all files modified less than 30 days ago. Are crackers/hackers known for using `touch` to modify timestamps? or is date scanning a suitable technique?

You might think about doing your backups to .g64 images. It retains more of the actually disk data, things like Action Replay warp files don't backup into a d64 but should work with .g64 etc.

If you have a letter that I sent with that disk, I'd love to see a scan of that!

Wow, that is an impressive demo. Looks like the Amstrad had a few more colours and higher resolutions than the 'ol C64 :( We still had SID though!

Enjoy the 1541 Ultimate, it's a fantastic piece of hardware.

Your disks should be okay to back up, most of mine were apart from some really unloved ones that the surface seemed to come off and stick itself to my drive's heads... Although I have to back them up again as the firmware in the 1541 U-II had a bug in it related to wiritng d64/g64 a year or more ago. It's well fixed now though.

Iain - glad you replied. It was your FidoNet address that I went looking for! I found it while archiving my old C64 disks. I'll find it later and email you the .d64 image file! :)

And that will be the subject of a larger post in a few days!

I didn't think I remembered mine until I thought about it after reading the above and I did. :) My BBS is listed pretty close to the top of the listing as well, don't know if that meant something though.

My regular was definitely Nemesis Dungeon, there's a lot of message on there from me. Funnily enough, when I went to Germany for a summer job and came back, I had lost all interest in BBSes and computers for the most part. So my BBS never came back online. It's still sitting on my Amiga, I had a look at it a few years back.. Kinda limited info on it but at least I had a C64 downloads section... not that anybody ever downloaded anything from it! ;-)

It was a great time though, I still remember the buzz when I first connected to a BBS after getting my 2400 baud modem. It was such an amazing thing.

Get off your lazy fat asses and get a job then you'll be able to afford a house for you and your family.. Houses Just Dont Come For Free!! Did your parents get a house for free? No, did your grandparents get their house for free? No, so why on earth should you expect to get one? ( single parents/unfit to work/benefit recipients not included) if you do have a family then shame on you for being too lazy to provide for them adequately, maybe you should consider adopting your children to people who have jobs and can put a roof over their heads.
