WordPress MU 2.9.1

WordPress MU version 2.9.1 has just been released.

This is probably the last release before it is merged into WordPress 3.0 as the merge has already started!

Anyway this release brings the new features and bug fixes of WordPress 2.9 and 2.9.1 into WordPress MU. My favourite new feature has to be the Trash can, but there’s also an image editor, plugins can be bulk updated and video embeds are easier to do.
If you have more than a few dozen blogs, be sure to add the commentmeta table first before upgrade.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make WordPress MU better over the years, either by helping on the forums, writing plugins, contributing code, working on Trac tickets or any of the other hundred and one other things that go into an open source project.

    Congrats on this milestone although I think for you it is bittersweet. What will your role be after the code bases have merged together? Will you still be leading the charge behind the multi-site functionality part of WordPress?

    Thank you for your hard work and the time you’ve committed to MU and WP in general. You could have been outside flying a kite on many a day and instead you were hard at work on MU, thank you!

    Thanks to everyone who worked on MU, I really love the idea of it from a website administrators point of view. And I must admit that WordPress 3.0 sounds pretty exciting, especially now that the MU project will be rolled into it.

    I am in the process of redoing a major site to be powered by WPMU. Once redone, it will be a pride of WPMU to have this one powered by it.

    BTW, when are you going to fix your menu so it doesn’t look broken in IE?

    I am an avid wordpress user. I always wanted to build an MU site with buddypress installed. Since wordpress 3 is coming out with mu rolled into it … would it make more sense to wait till 3.0 comes out and start then or will i be able to upgrade WPMU 2.9 to wordpress 3.0? I really want to get started … but i could wait (in theory ;) )

    Just curios about the embeds: does wpmu now have the same embed features as wordpress introduced in 2.9?

    Meaning I can now retire Viper’s Video Quicktags?

    Or does wpmu still behave more conservatively than sigle wp?

    Well. I had some problem with the “Expire” headers for the images.

    After a bit of searching I’ve found that in blogs.php at line 91 there is
    @header( ‘Expires: ‘ . gmdate(‘D, d M Y H:i:s’, time() + 100000000) . ‘ GMT’ );

    Why you have added this ? Wouldn’t it be better to leave the Expire header under the control of Apache ?
